Luke Buck - Watercolor

 Luke Buck Watercolor Workshop

March 2009 -  exact dates to be announced

My workshops are very informal...no dress code, no pop quiz or test,  no pressure, simply a motivational, creative, inspirational, environment.

Art is about sharing, working together toward a common goal, “to accomplish the finest results  in art to the best of our ability”.   I will be sharing tips in my painting techniques with watercolor and gouache in landscape and wildlife painting  that will assist you in enhancing your own techniques in most any water painting medium.  Possibly in other mediums too.

During this course I will be demonstrating in addition to working one-on-one as much as possible as everyone creates their own works of art.  We will discuss drawing, composition and design, color theory and color mixing, brushes, supplies, tools and equipment, and much more...everything related to art... maybe even donuts and coffee.

Come along, join the group of fellow artist for a week-end of enjoyment and camaraderie.

LUKE BUCK - American Artist

Luke Buck grew up in Indiana with a love for life, art, and nature that is evident in his nostalgic paintings of Americana and American wildlife.

Most of his art education came from training he received from his artist father, Harold Buck, whom he shared a studio with for many years.  Luke studied figure drawing at the John Heron Art Institute and majored in art at Arsenal Technical High School, both in Indianapolis, Indiana.  His advanced training came from intense study, practice, and devotion, while working full time as a professional artist since 1959.  During this time Luke was involved in not only fine arts, but also in the commercial art field and teaching art classes and painting workshops.  During his two year hitch in the U.S. Army  Luke served as an illustrator with the Second U.S. Army Headquarters Intelligence Division,  at Ft. George G. Meade, MD.    In 1981 he abandon the commercial field art to devote his full time attention to fine art.

Buck does work in oils and acrylics, but his favorite medium is “watercolor” for its spontaneity and versatility. He has developed a unique technique blending transparent watercolor with gouache (gwash) to achieve the maximum effect of the pigments.   Luke is primarily a studio painter but also enjoys “plein-aire” painting,  (painting outside on location), “this keeps an artist alert and fresh.” Although Luke indulges into “artistic license”, to create the atmosphere or “the feeling of the moment” in his paintings he still strives to maintain the accuracy of the scene. “This is part of preserving the authenticity of the vanishing subject matter”.

Eagle Creek Spring by Luke Buck

His father had once advised him to paint, not to please others, but to please each artist toughest critic; himself.  “Satisfy yourself with a painting, if you’re happy, others will be happy too.”  Remembering those words, when Buck is content with a painting, he always adds a personal final touch to it in an inconspicuous place - his fingerprint.

Luke’s talents have won him many honors and awards through the years and his work has been exhibited in major juried and invitational art shows and events plus numerous gallery and solo shows throughout the USA.

Being featured in many national publications Luke is also a contributing featured artist in Northlight Books, “Wildlife Painting Step By Step” and “The One Hour Watercolorist”, by Patrick Seslar.  In 1997 Luke signed on with “Mill Pond Press”,  one of the most well respected publishers of quality limited edition reproductions.  They print and distribute Luke’s art in through a network of galleries nationwide, and abroad, plus include his work through their licensing program.

When not at their lakefront home and studio in southern Indiana, Luke and his wife Coleen travel the blue highways and byways capturing the beauty of America with his palette.  His unique talents as an artist have earned him a strong following among art enthusiast and collectors across the USA and abroad.
